Who shares your planet, and how to look after them

Neighbors are the fuzzy residents who live on your personal planet. Each one has a distinct personality, and you support them with gifts, meals and walks.

Neighbors give the planet its daily rhythm. You build the home and shape the land, coast and skies, then share that place with residents who each behave differently. Life with them runs on small, repeatable acts instead of a quest chain: hand over a gift, cook and share a meal, go for a walk, and live through the stories that grow out of those moments. Spending time with Neighbors is one of the five headline activities for launch, next to farming, fishing, furniture crafting and exploration.

Four ways to care for a Neighbor

01

Learn each personality

No two Neighbors are interchangeable. Because every resident has a distinct personality, the same afternoon plays out differently depending on who you spend it with. Meet everyone who lives on your planet early, then choose whose company to build your routine around.

Give gifts

A gift is the most direct way to show a Neighbor you care. Each resident's favorite items have not been published for launch, so watch how they react to what you hand over and remember who liked what.

03

Share meals

Meals tie your Neighbors to the kitchen. Cooking combines ingredients into recipes, and those ingredients come from the same routine of harvesting crops, fishing and beachcombing. A tended garden and a full basket make it easier to feed everyone.

Walk and share stories

A walk is time together rather than an exchange of items. Walks and the stories you live through with each resident are what turn a Neighbor from someone you visit into someone you know.

Yunguo, the Cultivator

Yunguo is one of the Neighbors introduced ahead of the December 4 launch, presented with the role of Cultivator.

How many Neighbors are there?

Community guides that followed the Final Beta Test listed 16 Neighbors. That count comes from the test build, and the launch roster with names and profiles has not been released yet, so treat 16 as a starting point rather than a final number.

A simple Neighbor routine

  1. Say hello to each resident so you learn their personalities early.
  2. Keep a gift ready before you visit someone.
  3. Cook a recipe and share the meal with a Neighbor you have not fed recently.
  4. End the day with a walk, especially with someone you rarely see.
